About Chewing Gum and Removing Stuck Gum

By J L Winther

It's very upsetting to find a wad of chewing gum stuck in a beautiful child's or a cherished pet's hair, but try not to panic and run for the scissors. Instead, when that happens, reach for a jar of peanut butter. Spread some peanut butter on the offending gum. Then wait a few minutes while the oil works its magic. Finally, wipe out the gum with a cloth that's been dipped in water and shampoo.

Finding chewing gum stuck on clothing or carpeting can be a nightmare, but chewing gum drenched in peanut butter can be removed from fabrics and carpet in the same way using a cloth dipped in water and laundry detergent or rug shampoo. With a little patience the gum can be completely removed.

By the way, chewing gum products containing sorbitol should be chewed only in moderation to prevent them from causing gastric distress. Children should never be left alone with chewing gum containing sorbitol because kid's will invariably chew the whole pack in one sitting.

When introducing kid's to the pleasure of chewing gum, keep in mind that teaching them to wrap each piece of gum and properly dispose of it will prevent many gum stain problems later. It's also a good time to let them know when and where chewing gum is allowed and appropriate. They already know it's not allowed in school, but they still might decide to chew gum at a job interview if they're not coached in advance.

Chewing gum can be fun and it doesn't have to be anyone's problem.
