Keep Scatter Rugs Straight

By Jl Winther

Everyone has had the experience of tripping over the edge of a throw rug or hall runner that was not anchored down to the main carpet. Scatter rugs and runners move easily underfoot and straightening them can be a daily nuisance.

If you have wall to wall carpet and use rugs on top of the carpet, there may be a way to keep the carpets in place and prevent tripping. All you need is some Velcro and a hot glue gun.

Find some Velcro and test to see which side of the Velcro will attach to your main carpet. If it sticks to your carpet and easily releases and reattaches without damage to your carpet, then this plan will work.

Cut four pieces of Velcro approximately 1" x 2". Plan to use one piece under each corner of the throw rug or runner. Throw away the softer, non attaching side of the Velcro. Heat up the hot glue gun and glue the Velcro to the underside of each corner of the rug.

Let the glue cool and then place the rugs where you want them. Apply a little pressure to the rug corners where the Velcro has been added. The rugs will stay where you put them until you peel them up to vacuum and they'll stick back down repeatedly. Afterwards there will be less chance of tripping and constantly crooked rugs will be a thing of the past.
