The First State Diner is Now The College Town Cafe

Although the management is unchanged, this restaurant has changed it's long-standing name from The First State Diner to The College Town Cafe. It's located on S. College Ave. (Rt. 896) near Rt. 95 in Newark, Delaware. The new name reflects its close proximity to the University of Delaware. This family-friendly cafe offers a well-rounded American menu in addition to a Turkish menu. It also serves cocktails and has a very small bar. Attached to the College Town Cafe is a Mediteranean convenience grocery store called Abe's Market and News which is named after one of the owners. Much of the food on the shelves is labeled in Turkish. Interestingly, a foreign-looking chocolate candy bar purchased there was made by Kraft. The College Town Cafe is rarely crowded even though the homestyle food is good, the portions tend toward large and the servers are friendly. For business breakfast, lunch or dinner meetings, making reservations is suggested. To ensure great service for a large group, try requesting an additional server. If you're in the area, visit the College Town Cafe for a change of pace. According to popular rumor, pizza may be added to the menu soon and replace the Turkish portion of the menu. |
